Muscular dystrophy. Dr. Kader Kochi.

Muscular dystrophy refers to group of muscle diseases characterized by progressive skeletal muscle weakness, defects in muscle proteins, early degeneration of muscle cells mostly due to the defects in genes controlling the muscle proteins.

There are several types of muscular dystrophy, each with its own set of symptoms and progression. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is most common and severe form of the the disease, typically affecting boys. Becker muscular dystrophy is less severe form that can affect males and females.

Treatment

The medicinal treatment for muscular dystrophy varies depending on the types of the disease and specific symptoms of the patient.

Some common treatment include:

 1. Physical therapy: Physical therapy can help maintain muscle strength, and flexibility, as well as improve mobility and balance. Stretching exercise, warmth.

2. Occupational therapy: Occupational therapy can help individual with muscular dystrophy learn new ways to perform everyday tasks and adapt their environment to make it easier to move around.

3. Medication: Medicines can help reduces symptoms, slow the progression of muscle weakness and promote early  muscle cell rejuvenation.

4. Surgery: Surgery can be used to correct certain physical problems caused by muscular dystrophy, such as scoliosis or contractures in later stage.

5. Assistive devices: Assistive devices, such as braces, cans, or wheel chairs can help individual with muscular dystrophy maintain their independence and mobility.

6. Supportive care: Nutrition, respiratory care, and psychological support can play important roles in managing the symptoms of muscular dystrophy.

7. Specific homeopathic treatment constitutional treatment : It aims to correct genetic & auto immune abnormality (Cold remedies for some, Amritha remedies for others).

Multiple sclerosis. Kader Kochi.

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that affects brain and spinal cord. It is a wide spread progressive degenerative disease characterized by scattered areas of destruction of the myelin sheath covering nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Peripheral nerves are not affected. The course is varied and unpredictable. Plaque formation is due to the delay in healing following the inflammation and degeneration of nerve fiber. Periods of exacerbation and remission occur.

Pathophysiology

Inflammatory changes at axon sheath followed by delayed healing.

Increased microglial, plasma monocytes and astrocytes pooling.

Increased venous congestion in the brain and spinal cord.

Cerebrovascular arteritis.

Infiltrations of minerals at arms of oligodendrocytes.

Absence of remyelination due to lack of oligodendrocytes.

Delayed healing due to insufficiency of microglia followed by demyelination.

Slowness in conduction of nerve impulses.

Scar tissue formation at single fiber or at multiple fiber.

Damaged or broken nerve fibers.

Sclerosis.

Calcification.
